Wednesday, February 27, 2013 (Day 23)–Trees, Trees, More Trees

I left Estero, FL this morning about 10:30am.  Wow….miles and miles of trees…..50 miles with no services just trees.

Finally about 130 miles into the drive I hit civilization again and it was past time for lunch.  I saw a sign that said mall exit so I thought that would be a good place to stop for lunch.  It was called the “Dolphin Mall”.  My first clue was the sign for “valet parking”…my second sign was the name “Bloomingdales”.  This was a very upscale mall and huge.  It has 240 stores.  I decided to find the food court for some lunch.  I finally found it but this place was packed….the whole mall was busy and people were buying stuff and had many shopping bags.  The food court was nice but was so, so noisy.  I figured out that I was just on the outskirts of Miami and the mall is only 5 miles from Miami airport.  They have shuttles between the airport and the mall so people with time to kill come to the mall and spend money.  They also have shuttles from other parts of Miami so this is a tourist mecca.

Continued on to Key Largo, FL.  I am staying at the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park here tonight.  I drove 190 miles today.  This park is not too exciting to me.  This is mostly an undersea park.  Snorkeling, scuba and other water sports are the big attraction here.

I got to the park about 4:00pm.  It was 82 degrees here today.

Here is a picture of my site…..just a place to overnight…
