Another lovely day. It was cloudy most of the day with a high of 75 or so. I drove over to the Navy base to watch the Blue Angels team practice. The Navy base here is the initial training site for Navy, Marine and Coast Guard flyers as well as the home of the Blue Angels.
The Blue Angels team spend Jan and Feb in California training 6 days a week. In March they come back to Pensacola where they perform practice shows on Tues & Wed morning. On Thursdays they fly to their weekend show location. On Fridays they perform a practice show and on Sat and Sun they perform at whatever air show they are at that weekend. On Sunday evenings they fly back to Pensacola, take Monday off and start over again on Tuesday. The pilots are Navy or Marine pilots.
They have seating for 1300 and all the seats were already taken by the time I got there. The practice started at 11:30 and lasts about an hour. It is free.
After the practice, I wondered around Pensacola, went to a few stores. I pulled in to a Thrift Store run by the Methodist community here. It was a small store. It looked like maybe it had been a convenience store before. What was amazing was the number of volunteers. There must have been at least 10 volunteers in this tiny store.
I watched a mammoth motor home back in next door in the dark a few minutes ago. It was not pretty.
You made me laugh, the big motor home wasn’t pretty, now would that be the parking they attempted, or was it a not so pretty motorcoach? I just have a vision of a 70’s class A in a crazy lime green in my head 🙂 If you don’t mind me asking, what type of camera do you use and what settings? I love your photos! I like to think of myself as a scrapbooker and I take good photos, but sometimes I want your photos in my scrapbooks! What awesome pictures. I love reading your travels and I take note of places I want to take my children 🙂 Thanks Gayle!
